Anyone interested in prices can log into the CBT site -
www.cbot.com - but, since futures in ethanol are not traded there or, at
present, anywhere else, don't expect too much info. There is a LOT of
interest in treating ethanol as a commodity on which futures could be
traded, but nothing yet developed. Ethanol is a downstream product in the
sugar industry and holders of cash positions can hedge them w/ sugar
futures - commonly done in India by using the sugar contract traded in
London on LIFFE; in this country positions in corn-derived ethanol can be
hedged by use of corn futures traded at CBT.
Other energy futures - crude, gasoline, heating oil, propane,
natgas - are in North America traded at NYMEX - New York Mercantile Exchange
and in the UK and Europe commonly by contracts traded at the International
Petroleum Exchange - IPE - in London which offers futures in natgas, Brent
crude & gasoil (this used to hedge positions in diesel, jet fuel, &
heatingoil).
You might take a look at F. O. Licht, a UK-based outfit, which is a
MAJOR player in the so-called "softs" (sugar, coffee, cocoa) market.
www.fo-licht.com Their sugar interests involve them in ethanol and, I
guess, Licht will be involved in the World Ethanol Production meeting
scheduled for this coming November in London.
