Hi Betsy:

Thanks for the information and explanation. I didn't see your post
until just this moment.

Going to the CBOT site, I cannot find any information as to ethanol
pricing. So, I don't think there are any futures there including
ethanol. Years ago when I looked into this I couldn't find info on
the Kansas City Exchange either. In the case of the CBOT, since ADM
must be a heavyweight there, I'm not surprised one bit they'd keep
ethanol pricing from showing up anywhere (if I view the site
accurately). I see this link for AG product pricing:

http://www.cbot.com/cbot/www/page/0,1398,12+29,00.html

but nothing apparently for downstream products as you refer to it. I
also saw nothing at fo-licht for ethanol pricing, when I went there
the other day, though certainly I could be missing something.

I don't doubt that someone here could provide me with a good idea of
how ethanol is being priced in various ways at this particular moment,
but the principle I'm trying to get at is that, from the activist
perspective, this product, which is supposedly a fuel that is a
candidate to compete with part of all consumers' fuel needs, is not
being traded as openly as other fuels, and its pricing, which is the
source of tremendous criticism and resistance to the commodity
("without subsidies it would never work"), is known well only to a
privileged few some of whom then engage in those blanket condemnations
of the product.

Maybe this upcoming November meeting could result in an improved level
of "status" for the product's pricing information. In my own working
hypothesis, the powers that be (i.e.: Oil) are only too happy to see
ethanol trading and pricing excluded from the NYMEX, and only too
happy to see the Ag and Ethanol lobby spend years not really getting
the importance of this, fumbling over all manner of pro-ethanol
lobbying campaigns, and never even mentioning or thinking about or
debating the lack of transparent publicly-available pricing and
trading.

Maybe there is a website that follows ethanol pricing in Brazil?
