Well I visited New York in 2004 and then the choice was either a shuttle bus (which drops you off somewhere near Grand Central) or the monorail to an "A train" subway station which would take you into Manhattan.
Once you're in Manhattan I guess you can just use an OSM map ;-) Obviously things might have changed now...
