Wow, found this great mobile distro after seeing your recent PR (http://practical-tech.com/infrastructure/alpha-ubuntu-for-umpcs-is-developer-ready/).  Very cool stuff, and a talented team driving it as well!

So, here is a not ready for prime time question set, to see if I can shoe-horn either the Ubuntu MID kernel or better yet a whole image from this project into a development effort we are working on in a related space.

Target Platform:  Intel Atom, initially Intel D945CGLF board (because price/performance of this outstanding just now)
Application:  Mostly embedded sensor capture, including video capture, but also some GPS, engine stuff, and other things.
Current Distro:  Voyage Linux 4
Short Term Reason for Change:  Voyage kernel not keeping up with Atom world, especially Intel D945CGLF, which has driver issues.
Longer Term Reason for Change:  May want to add a UI next year, and Voyage does not really support one now, but the UI you guys are working on could be perfect, since we are talking limited screen real estate.

So, here's the questions:

1. How close to Intel D945CGLF support is the kernel source your team is working on, and if I want to git a kernel source tree to test it, where would I look?

2. The Moblin Image Creator utility looks totally cool.  What are the odds that something it outputs would run on a D945CGLF Atom board just now?  I know that the site says only the Samsung is really supported, but I figured this might be close enough, especially since I am planning to strip out the UI stuff initially, and just go with a command line interface.

3. Is the Ubuntu MID a smart direction for a mostly embedded application like what I describe above to go, or am I spinning my wheels?

Any insights are greatly appreciated.  We've got about 1,000 users out there now, and we love to have a lot more a few years from now.

'Cheers!'

- Michael
