And that could be the whole problem. What's the
minimum Mac OS
version for that G3 upgrade?

The Daystar Turbo 601 (and their other 601 upgrades)
required
a minimum of System 7.5, even though some PowerMacs
would run
older.

I'd bet the G3 upgrade needs at least 8.5 to work
without
problems.
