4 operating systems spread across 2 hard drives with different
interfaces is not the best way to keep a system stable. In other words,
juggling with live hand grenades is not the best way to start learning
how to juggle.

I am not sure why you did not paste the contents of the txt file
directly into the email, it makes it easier to comment on the specifics.

Anyway, input output errors usually means a physical problem with the
storage media.

When you do create a partition, it will be /dev/sdc1 (based on your
examples). This is what you usually make the file system on:

sudo mkfs.vfat /dev/sdc1

Some old and rare usb flash devices had a file system on the root device
(eg. /dev/sdc) and formatting them often caused grief. It has been 5
years since I have seen one of these.

If you are formatting with fat32, perhaps you should give the windows
drive manager a try?
