Ubuntu is pretty aggressive with pushing new versions of gcc.  This was
my biggest (unpleasant) surprise when I switched from Debian to Ubuntu
back in 4.10/5.04 days.  These days I have a more balanced view of this
practise, especially since I have either chrooted or virtualized
instances of all the platforms I need to build kernels or modules for.
