I'm going to indulge in some speculation of my own, that actually, it
makes it better.

Any given sector will be written to very, very rarely.  ~40 bytes per
entry, ~512 byte sectors; as the disk approaches full, the average
write count of sectors will approach 13.  And, moreover, the random
distribution will make the wear leveller's job incredibly easy.

I don't really have any evidence to back this up, but, I see no
obvious reason that it should be less correct.
