Hi Blake, Yes, I am. Taking it back step by step, when one receives a mail with an attachment, there is no way that the attachment can be scanned at the point of the e-mail program. In groups such as this, along the way of my learning curve, I have picked up that if one really wants to open the attachment, it is better to save it to Desktop, where it will not be opened, and from where it can be scanned. I understand that if at that point it is found to contain a virus then you could be like the proverbial or virtual turkey, if you know what I mean. However, my point of enquiry is why does the attachment not considered to place the PC vulnerable between the time it is saved from the e-mail to the Desktop?
My anti virus program would be scanning it and that is AVG. I also have a firewall in place, in case that makes any difference. I have executed an attachment this way and the scan has revealed a virus from where it got sent to the virus vault without ill effect. My purpose is in asking what is it that renders the Desktop less vulnerable and capable of scanning an attachment prior to opening it.
