You were fortunate to be able to get some one to build them so cheaply for you. Two of my earlier PCs were built for me, the first by a Disability Charity, the second by a local bod and both were very stable but costly for the era in which they were built. As I mentioned earlier, with a Dell PC you only get a Recovery disk, that's how they can distribute high quality hardware so cheaply. A number of PC distributors do the same and most dont have a problem with them, but..........if you want to keep them up to date to cover vulnerabilities at the Microsoft site you are going to have to read about them before downloading and installing them. Microsoft now delivers updates for those who do only have a recovery disk as well as those who have the product disk. Dell were hot on the trail of reply to my communication to them about the situation. I've been given a software support number here in the UK to contact. I suspect they will tell me I need to uninstall Microsoft Office [Small Business] 2003 but as to whether or not it can be reinstalled from a recovery disk I shall have to find out. I doubt it.
