We are moving inexorably into a more complex world but our language
skills as a society seem to be deteriorating.
All I meant by what I said about using my 3 XP disks on several
machines is that for the most part I was not prevented from using
them. Actually recently I was prevented. I installed my # 2 XP disk
on a computer that is on my network. After the install and reboot I
was told that I had to activate XP BEFORE starting it. Only because
that computer did not yet have an XP driver installed for the NIC I
could not get on the internet. Nor did I have it connected to a phone
modem. I have not used my computers on a phone since I got broad band.

My solution for the above problem was to use a different XP install
disk and do a reinstall so that it would expect a different key #.
That worked and I did not have to activate that copy before
installing. Problem solved, I installed the NIC drivers and was able
to activate. This is one of the advantage of OEM rescue disks over a
plain XP disk, you have the drivers for the machine in question. You
also have, of course, both apps you like and those you may not like
much. I always uninstall Quicken. :-)
