Silk,

Ok, yes, I missed that you said the disappearing icon was for My Computer.
So, to fix that, just right click the desktop. clock properties, desktop, 
then cutomize desktop. Neare the top are four icons that can be shown on the 
desktop. One is My Computer. If that item is now unchecked, then just check 
it again. Yes, it is weird if it got unchecked. It is even more weird if it 
is checked but the icon is not showing. If the latter is the case I would 
uncheck My Computer, and chekc it again. Don't worry about why this happend, 
that is probably in the realm of past finding out with Windows.
