you must create a point on the system to restore it to in order to restore it.
When the system is running at peak performance is the best time to create a
backup point. It is to that point that you will be able to restore your system
to.
If things are completely haywire you can always resort to the backup disks that
came with your system (or should have come with your system) when you purchased
it. I know that one of the new Hewlett Packard machines came with the backup
directly on the system and in that case it would be wise to copy that to a disk
before the system crashes.
