Is it a 'bootleg' copy of WinXP or, is it a registered copy that, came
with the CD and, the Registration Key?

Unless that 'someone' is thinking of Linux for Windows, then, chuck that
idea. Linux for Windows is a GUI(Graphical User Interface) but, it is
not 'true' Windows. Also, The non-Windows version of Linux is
command-line based. Unless the friend has an understanding of command
line functions, then, don't even think about it.
