Thanks Chris. I will have to ask exactly what she gave him. I don't know
if it is a new one with XP on it or if she refurbished an old one she
had (or obtained) and put her copy of Windows XP on it. I am kind of
leery about the Linux boot disk thing. I had a class in Linux about 4
years ago but honestly can't remember much :-)

I will find out more and ask more specifically once I get some answers.

Thanks again,
Mick

Has this also been asked in TSFD? If so my reply is below

You don't need the password as long as the computer is not a laptop. You
simply boot in to Safe Mode and sign is as the Administrator:

Hi Paris,

I cannot thank you enough! Your first method of booting up in safe
mode worked perfectly!

This has been such a major headaches and now I do not have to take
the PC back after only having it three weeks to get that sorted!

Thanks again.....
