I'm no expert and somebody can correct this if it's wrong...

_Passphrase _is a string of normal letters you make up to help you
remember your router's WEP key. Since the WEP key is a long string of
unrelated numbers and letters in hexadecimal form, the router lets you
make up something easier to remember and then converts it into
hexadecimal. The WEP key is like the house key to your router - only
devices that have the key can use the router. Otherwise all your
neighbors would be piggy-backing on your connection, heh. If your
computer gets disconnected from the router, in order to reconnect you'll
probably be asked for your username and passphrase (or it might be
called wep key, or password, etc. - but it is really the hexadecimal wep
key.) As far as I know you really don't need to create a passphrase -
just use the actual hex WEP key to log in. That's the way I do it - just
write it down so you don't forget it.

The _Password_ you are talking about (I think) is the password to enter
your router's setup utility. Presumably your router is already setup
and working? But you might like to look at, or change, it's settings.
To do this you need to open a web browser and type in your router's
"internal" IP address. I'm pretty sure it would be 192.168.1.1 (but
check the manual if that doesn't work). This isn't a website on the
internet - it's just the internal setup utility of the router. The
router's setup utility will open inside the browser and you'll be asked
for a username and password. The first time you use it you'll use
Linksys's defaults, which are (I think): username= nothing (leave it
blank), password= admin. If that doesn't work, check your manual. Of
course, once inside, you can change the username and password as you
would with anything else (or leave it as is like I did, heh).
So, the "password" in this case doesn't get you onto the internet - only
into the router's settings. You'll need the "passphrase (or WEP) to get
online.

Hope that helps,
Donk
