If you have restore disk(s) for you machine, use them since it/they
will probably have drivers for your hardware. Of course if you got the
machine before XP came out you may need to update drivers [unless you
already upgraded to XP]

If your computer is misbehaving a restore/reformat might be a
solution. But otherwise I wouldn't rush into it. However one thing
about doing either the reformat or using the rescue disk you gain
experience doing it. Each time you do it you get better at it and gain
confidence.

Yes, when you get to that point the reformat 'covers' a multitude of
sins. :-)
