Ian,
> My first car was a 43 Y type Ford.
Wow, our first family car was a 50 Ford, the one I learned to drive
on. I learned to appreciate one thing that was better on Chevy stick
shifts, the ones on the steering post, it had a much shorter shift
stroke compared to the Ford. Of course by the time I got my first
Chevy all cars were automatic.
The age of your first car suggest that you are older than I, OR you
just got an older car than I did. The fact that mine was a Studebaker
meant it was cheaper, $ 250. But it had a terrible engine, within a
month the engine needed major repair.
