Safe Mode with Command Prompt...I can get this far by using a Symantec/Norton
recovery
Boot disc. However I need assistance when I get as far as the command prompt.
I thought that using CD to change directories would allow me to get into the C
drive and
do a scan followed by some form of recovery action. However I do not seem to
be able to
get beyond the CD prompt.
Do you have any suggestions?
Hi:'
If you can get to the root of "C" , that is, C:\ you've got it beat. From
there you can view or copy any file on your PC using normal DOS commands. You
need a little study of DOS. DOS on Vista or XP is a special DOS, Not the
typical DOS 6 or 7. Microsoft says it is "Virtual DOS" and is special.
At the DOS prompt, C:\, you can add the following to do a "Windows
System Restore", add> Windows\system32\restore\rstrui to reach the windows
restore calendar. From there you can select a date to restore back to. You
may also be able to repair a drive. Add the following> chkdsk /r to do a
drive scan and repair.
DOS books are easily found for a buck or two at places like the
Goodwill, or Value Village and just need a bit of study. With the "Copy"
commands one can extract pictures or other data to a Disk. Bye
Emile
