Hi Les

You did not say which provider and really I am not always able to advise at
all on some where they are cable services for instance.

It is simple to turn off the Windows firewall.

Click the Start button. Find and open Control Panel. Click the Firewall icon
 Under the General Tab put a tick in the Firewall Off box.

There are two more tabs, Exceptions and Advanced but these would need a good
deal of knowledge to change so I am afraid I can only suggest you get an
actual computer man to look at your set up.

Do you have any knowledgeable friends or a computer shop that would send a
man out at a cheap price?

  thanks for your reply. i have been on the phone with my isp 4 times
shortest call must have been 45-60 minutes. i'm in the USA using
windows XP windows explorer 8 beta 2, windows XP service pack 2
  the second person said that they needed to use a "bridge" what ever
that is ? to even get me on the internet. this is what i get trying to
do a dianostic as whi i can not use enternet exploere " welcome to
network diagnestic for windows xp " windows cannot connect to the
internet using HTTP,HTTPS, or FTP"  " this is  probably caused by
firewall settings on this computer" check the firewall settings for
the HTTP port (80) HTTPS port (443) and FTP" i have no idea what any
of this all means lol  no idea whay a "bridge" is ether
