Hello,

I did a quick google on making room on hard drive and am finding some
good articles like this first link. It however doesn't mention getting
rid of no longer needed Windows Update files.

You can regain a very large amount of space on your drive by getting rid
of those uninstall folders created by Windows Updates. I know on my
system there are 170 of these folders, and they take up a lot of space
but then I have plenty of space left so for me they are not an issue.

If you feel you will never want to uninstall any of the updates you can
get rid of those folders. Have a read in this Microsoft Knowledge Base
article on removing them.
