Yeah, well OK. Two things I've learned from this conversation: 1. whereas I
have heard bad things about Vista, I also heard one good thing which prompted
me to buy the computer from Walmart w/Vista. So the first thing I learned was
to buy if possible from the manufacturer or from a source the manufacturer's
helpline will assist me. and 2. I don't have to be deathly afraid of Vista. oh
yes, and 3. Microsoft expects to come out with a new operating system next
year. :-) Thanks, y'all!!

That is true, but some big stores will provide a helpline which tries to
get you going, and if they can't help you they pass you onto Dell (or
whoever).

Cindi, I am sorry to hear you had major problems. If I lived closer to you
I would only be too happy to assist. As Ian said, your cable company
should really have assisted you some more in getting connected. Next time,
is there a friend or relative who has experience in such setups who could
assist? I often help friends and relatives, and for others I charge a
nominal fee to cover my time and petrol, you might consider that if you
don't know of anyone who can help..
