Well, exactly what happens when you install the driver software and 
printer?  Does it seem to install fine?  Do you get a message that says 
the installation was successful?

What version of windows do you have?  If you go to Start, Control Panel, 
and click the Printers category, does the HP printer show up?  If you 
see it, right-click on it and choose "Properties" from the popup menu.  
You should find an option there to "Print a Test Page".  What happens 
when you click it?
