Yes, doing the system restore can take quite a while until you reboot 
and get back to the desktop.  It sounds like it was successful as far as 
fixing your system files and getting the "All Programs" menu back.  It 
shouldn't cause any problems like you describe with Gmail.

Is anything besides Gmail running really slowly?  Like, can you access 
other websites at normal speed?  And, is the computer only slow when you 
are doing stuff online - is it normal speed for running programs like 
Wordpad, games, etc.?

If it is only Gmail that is running slow, try this...
Go to Start, Run and type  "firefox -safe-mode", but without the 
quotation marks.  This will start Firefox without any extensions or 
add-ons.  See if Gmail works better now.  Maybe it is an extension or 
add-on that is causing your Gmail probs - just have to figure out which one.
