The warning error is coming from your hard drive itself - has nothing to
do with Windows or software. It's a technology built into drives called
SMART that is supposed to warn you "before" a drive totally fails - thus
giving you time to back up your important data. So... if the PC is
under warranty, Best Buy should absolutely install a new drive for you.
It is NOT a "software issue" as they say.

That said... it's not unheard of for SMART to give a false warning. But
it's rare. What happens if you press F2, can you boot into windows? If
so, I would immediately backup all my important data to a thumb drive or
external hard drive, etc. After that, you have a couple options.
1. you can press F10 to enter BIOS setup. There is likely an option
somewhere in there to disable SMART. Doing so will get rid of the
"imminent failure" warning at bootup. You can then just carry on as
usual and wait for the sooner-or-later total death of the drive.
2. or you can enter windows and run a test of the drive. Called a
checkdisk. Start, Computer, right-click the C: drive, choose
Properties, then the Tools tab. Click "check this disk now". Be sure to
put a check in the box to "try to fix errors". This will check the
drive for any bad sectors and try to repair the files. You'll get a
report at the end telling how many bad sectors were found. It can take
several hours to run the check - and be warned that often just running
the check will be the final nail in the drive's coffin if it was
starting to fail anyway. But if the check fixes the errors you will
have bought yourself a little more time.

From reading your post... the fact that you had to do a recover, and
that you are having problems opening programs (Norton), might indicate
that the drive is already in very bad shape. So the best thing to do -
if you're under warranty at Best Buy - is be a little more forceful to
have them give you a new drive - period! Talk to a manager.
Hard drives fail unpredictably - you could not have done anything wrong
to cause this - it just happens. So don't let them tell you it's your
fault.
Sorry.
