But "Now, o now, I needs must part" is a galliard, not a hornpipe.

Well, the musical knowledge my piano teacher told me was that if I
wanted triplets I should notate them that way.  Given MIDI is the _de
facto_ transfer language between programs, I don't think abc2midi
should be making this kind of assumption about what people are
playing.  Or at least, one should be able to turn these kinds of
assumptions off.  

And in any case, if abc2midi makes that assumption, midi2abc should be
able to decode it.  Otherwise, how do you test that your statement
about computer-generated MIDI files producing output identical to the
input is true?
