Well, it is really heartening to see this topic flickering on the forum. The
questions raised by Mr Suryanarayana are thoughtful and thought-provoking.
How about organising a meeting of all the blinds in Delhi and inviting the
prominent politicians to convey our grievances? Silence is one of the
hardest arguments to refute. Josh Billings

Dear Suryanarayana,
You are absolutely right. Elections come and go but our problems should
remain same forever. As per 2001 census 2.21 crore persons around two
percentage of Indian population is with various disabilities. In 2004
general elections no political party has touched the problems of the
differently abled. Even till today no political party included the problems
of the differently abled in to the election manifestoes of coming Loksabha
elections. India claims it is a welfare state. But what about the welfare
of the physically challenged? Is there any political party ready to cater
needs of physically challenged? How long shall we wait for the mercy of the
political leaders?
Our political participation is totally neglected. In 2004 Supreme court of
India issued guide lines for arranging ramps and Braille E V M s for the
voting of persons with disabilities which were not properly implemented even in recent Assembly elections. As per our population of 2001 two percentage seats I.E. 11 seats should be allotted to the persons with disabilities. Is
there any political party ready to offer two percentage of seats to the
Physically challenged persons? Is it not our political right to claim
proportionate political representation? If political participation is not
provided, who will plead our rights and problems in the Parliament?
It is the right time to educate and express our demands before the political parties. All NGOs should together play active role in including the demands
of the differently abled in to the election manifestoes of every political
party.
With kind regards,
G. Janardhana Naidu.

Hello friends,

My conscious doesn't allow me to keep quiet without discussing the
following with all the list.

Most of our visually impaired friends off the list. You might have
observered my grievences about coins in my previous posting t5o this list.
Now I'm going to propose another way to achieve our demands to lead a
comfortable life.

It is the time for general elections Every lobbying is trying influence
the political parties through their agenda.

I feel better; if we represent our demands with the political parties. At
least they can understand what our needs are. Our demands should be just
like:

1. The act of 1995 should be implemented with zeal and courage,

2. The minting of coins should be addressed our needs,

3. Seeking more reservation in govt jobs and promotions,

4. Setting up of more computer institutes for b.h. candidates,

5. Establishment of coaching centres for civil services and other
govt jobs,

6. Betterment of working conditions of b.h. by providing computers
and other fecilities.

I hope our friends in Delhi in national level and our friends in different
capitals of respected states can do it. I ask for your forgiveness, If I
wrongly stated. Please respond me in order to uplift our present levels.
All of your suggestions are deeply appreciated.

With hopes,

Surya,
