But what about some foreign sites which don't have any provisions of OTP? I can quote some of the site which do not even require the CVV Code, one such site is ENotes.com. I've recently transacted over some foreign sites which don't have any provisions of OTP, I think mandating OTP has to be from a merchant's site and it has nothing to do with the credit card agencies. Just because of the RBI guidelines, Indian sites are inserting an extra layer and the same doesn't seem to be having any jurisdiction over the foreign sites, at least this is what I would like to conclude. that is the main reason I've never been able to understand the primary arguments behind introducing this so called extra layer! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Amar Jain" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, March 25, 2012 10:34 PM Subject: Re: [AI] levy or processing fee is being charged by payment gateway
There is nothing which stops payment gateways from charging processing fee. And specially if you are using credit card, many sites charge you some % extra as a transaction charge. And after the latest budget, credit card transactions are taxable. So really speaking, complaining about these extra charges will get you nothing. For example, if you have booked coins from Kolkata mint, then they charge you extra as transaction fee. If you recharge using eazymobilerecharge, then 2 Rupees for using cards is charged. As far as security of transactions is concerned, after 2011 circular of RBI wherein the use of one time password and other steps are taken by RBI to secure card transactions, there is no extra risk involved in using cards. Previously when cards relied only on CVV and other information which was printed on cards, that time it was not very secure method of making payments online specially. But now things have changed to a great extent. -- Amar Jain.
