imran, due to matching of codecs they are played. renaming those files does
not make any sense. Yu know another funny thing? even if you rename it in
to .avi it will be played in to the winamp. audio and video codecs are
different. Usually those .dat files are arranged in the VCD where
VCD_play.exe file shall be executed. those .dat files are located in your
vcd\mpeg\. if you want to copy them in to your harddisk obviously you need
to copy that mpeg folder rather copying whole ☺!

It is possible that many dat files can be treated as WMV files, just by
renaming the extension to .wmv. give it a try

select that file (.dat), press alt+enter to open its property and press
alt+c to activate the change...butten which opens the open with dialog
alt+and
under that tree view select "windows media player" and say OK. note: if
you
have already installed the k-light codec classic media player should open
these files by default.
