The server currently does not really have a notion of a gateway being present 
or going away. Communication is initiated by the gateway, so the best the 
server can do is keep track of the date and time at which it last "saw" that 
gateway. Of course one could define "away" as "not having seen it for X amount 
of time" but you can never be sure. Showing that "last seen date" somewhere in 
the UI probably makes sense.
