I guess there is another option which is that the gateway "tells" the server
its poll interval and the server will use that information as the timeout. In
other words, the server will display the gateway as gone if currentTime >
lastSaw + gatewayPollTime + somedeltaforclockskew. Nevertheless, i agree with
showing that "last seen date" somewhere in the UI probably makes sense.
