I really dislike this solution, and I believe I even tried it with
latest sources and it didn't work.

My rationale is that I have an inherent (read: inheritable) and
replicable order to my columns that I want to apply by default to all
actions - list, create, update, show.  I'd prefer to assign it once
and have the order be inherited as it was originally written to do.
Assigning each of the actions' orders is awkward and unnecessary
duplication.
