This was a very controversial policy to develop. It is common at out
institution to have faculty, staff and students engaged in multiple venues of
social media. Although we do not have an official stance on "friending" or
"following", Code of Conduct, Ethics, Title IX, etc. also have implications
for appropriate behavior that continue outside the workplace, so this one is
quite complicated with fine lines between what is appropriate and what is not.

Subject: RE: [acupa-l] Updated, Approved, Effective: Dates Associated with
Policies

We are updating our Public Information, Communications, and Branding policy and
procedure and are interested in seeing how other institutions have addressed
the issue of faculty, staff, and student private social media accounts,
particularly those that have information that identifies the institution. Do
you require a disclaimer so as to avoid association with the College? Also, how
does your institution handle "following" or "friending" between faculty and
students?
