But he doesn't want all black, he wants to freeze a
single frame for 5 seconds.

IIRC, if you take a still image and drop it onto the
timeline, by default it's held for 5 seconds. (The
time can be changed.)

So what he needs to know, with instructions specific
to the AP version he's using, is how to take a frame
of video, save it as a still image, then add it to the timeline.
