It doesn't make sense to allow them both to run at the same time. Here's a
scenario if both are running: Invariably, while ChkDsk is running through
the sectors of a file accumulating the checksum value, part way through the
OS may interrupt it, and task-switch over to Defrag. Now Defrag runs and
moves some blocks around. Then when Defrag's time is up, it is interrupted
and task-switched back to ChkDsk; ChkDsk resumes accumulating where it left
off, but whoa, the sectors just got moved out from under its feet and the
data no longer belongs to the original file! Therefore ChkDsk gets the wrong
checksum.

When defrag runs you don't want anything else to be running either. You
cannot have a task writing to the disk while defrag is moving file sectors
around. Which sectors are getting moved? And when ChkDsk runs you can't have
anything else running. (When Windows runs defrag, the Windows page file is
in use so defrag cannot defrag it. That is why in order to defrag the page
file one usually runs a dos version outside of windows because dos doesn't
use the page file.)

Yep Greg! Thanks :) That's exactly what I did; DOS command line to block the
running of ChkDsk. Only trouble with that though is that once the system
decides to run ChkDsk, it "by gosh wants to run it!"...which means that
you're kinda screwed for doing things like Defrag...or at least I haven't
been able to Defrag. It's pretty critical to run Defrag, but the system
keeps saying that it CAN'T run Defrag until ChkDsk does it's "scheduled" run
first. So, basically what idiot-Windows is telling me is, "We cannot run
Defrag for you until you allow us to corrupt and delete some of your most
critical data with ChkDsk. Once we screw you out of your data, then we will
let you run Defrag, so you can organize all of your remaining worthless data
in a contiguous fashion"....LOL! :p
