I would not be so sure about that. The newest Sybase Adaptive Server
Enterprise (ASE) has Java build in. Adaptive Server Anywhere (ASA) has
had Java support for a while. AFAIK, Oracle has had Java support for a
while too.

It certainly won't complete replace Perl. But were I still be a DBA,
I would be learning Java right now. (And that's not because of Java,
if some other language was build in, I'd be learning that.)
