The thing about Perl people is that most of us wear many hats as I don't
know too many people who are simply Perl programmers or who can afford to
be in this economy at the moment. It keeps people interesting :)

At this point I would guess publishing in "The Sciences" or one of the
linguistic journals would have as enthusiastic a readership as TPJ has
since so many bioinformaticists and linguists use Perl.

The demographic for a Perl person vs. a non-Perl person may be difficult
to define.

The only place I can think of that might be a good place for an advert to
reach people who don't know Perl at all would be "Martha Stewart Living"
in the "Good Things[tm]" section :) Homemakers need Perl with DBI to keep
track of their home inventory and their recipes. Women could then start
raising their children with Perl. And then there is still the dormant
idea of "Perl House Rock" for teaching Perl to kids in gradeschool. It's a
20-year marketing plan but ambitious :)

So many people know about Perl and it's almost all directly due to
O'Reilly. :)
