THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT.

No, it's not an application server. No, it's not everything you need
to build a complex site.

It's one of many components for that. And dig this: You can get just
the webserver without having 34534 other thingies installed by
default that makes your webserver about as secure as having inetd
just run /bin/sh on port 23.

To quote another ASF member as written on an internal list,

"Imagine that.  Instead of declaring that you must have this massive
monolithic piece of software that forces you into doing it the One
True Way, you can take components (ASF or not, open source or not)
that meet your needs, stick them together, and get Your True Way!  
What a concept.

Now, I'm not claiming that all the pieces are the best they could be
or meet people's needs in the best possible way.  But that has
little to do with the Apache HTTP server, aside from the fact that
some "threats" are coming from products offering very monotlithic
approaches.

So here is the slogan I propose we adopt: "The Apache HTTP Server:
It's Just a Web Server"."
