Very clever -- but that would leave Whitman out of the conversation, wouldn't
it?  "Soul" appears a dozen times in "Song of Myself" -- so it would seem to
have been a very important word to him.

Whitman distinguished body and soul --- not body and mind.

Is anyone here claiming that Whitman's notion of  "soul" was not much
different from the "mind" as it is now discussed in neuroscience?
