For me it is highly entropic proposition. Art has specific structural qualities. Once art it stays art regardless natural fluctuations of material, aesthetic and social values - evolving changes of taste and preferences of styles. Whether or not I say something is good art does not guarantee it as art. Maybe everything that was ever decided as art will one day be dismissed as art. And visa-versa. I can offer examples of machine made art as art but it's only my proposition; I can offer examples that I don't propose as art but which might be art. Skill as handiwork is not the necessary condition of art as a global class of things. But unfortunately, Mando's definition is "those who do very realistic work without any skill in the doing of it" And how do you determine the presence or absence of skill, if not by the appearance of the results? Which makes the discussion of "machine made" -- or really any other kind of "facture" --- just another art-talk attempt to make a personal judgment sound more important. Mando doesn't like certain paintings and sculptures -- and since he's spent fifty years designing things, it can be important to know what those are.
