I claim that bringing in "art" and "beauty" clouds the issues here. I'll
stick to the already cloudy enough "aesthetic experience".

I brought up back-rubs and orgasms for a very special reason: They both
serve nicely to demonstrate a "mystery": why do these tactile stimulations
occasion pleasure? I'm not asking the likes of an etiological or teleological
question. I'm asking why being touched in certain ways occasions not just an
awareness of being touched but also pleasure? Why, when I listen to Mozart,
am I aware of specific sounds AND of pleasure? I often experience touch and
sound -- with no additional consciousness like pleasure, pain, etc. I'm
convinced that the answer to a question somewhat like this is ultimately key to
"understanding" a.e.'s.
