Of course, this never comes up as a problem to me because I claim nothing
"has a meaning", including green. But lemme ask: Suppose someone says, "I
noticed that in Jones's essay there was not a single word of over two
syllables." Would you say the speaker has just cited part of "the meaning of"
of
Jones's essay? Would you understand if someone else said, "No, that's not part
of the essay's meaning." How would you decide which of you two is right?
