If, each time you use the word 'meaning', the notion you have in mind is [the physical role being played in nature by an object], I guarantee that very few readers will pick up the notion you are trying to convey. All of us are inclined unthinkingly to assume that whenever we use a word all our readers will conceive a notion identical to the one we had in mind as we wrote -- and we are very often wrong in that assumption.
