We have also been leisurely investigating this equipment to see if the throughput and cost might make sense for our harder to service areas. To date, we have looked at Redline and Carlson but haven’t found lots of others. We’d be pretty interested in what folks are finding. It has been difficult to nail down the actual cost per subscriber, but from what we can tell, it is north of $500, but likely closer to $1000. Additionally there are recurring fees to use the management database which also adds to the cost.
The other item that has been tough to determine is how much speed can you get to the subscriber for those kinds of costs. Will a good signal get you 25 Mbps of throughput, or are those connections never going to do better than 10 Mbps no matter how good the signal? The options I've been quoted both look like they're going to make for a ~$700 CPE cost, which is quite a bit more than I'm willing to spend.
