What about satellite TV, does that still use VHF/UHF channels over coax and
does it leak? Like from unterminated taps on splitters and stuff?

You should also check to see how noisy TVWS spectrum is too.

We are burried in the mtn and the databases all show every channel is available
except 10 (can’t use below 14 anyway) and 33. Otherwise the spectrum should be
clear. Well I think the Comcast plant must be super leaky because there’s a
lot of noise we didn’t expect.

Also you can get noise from distant TV transmitters. In our area that
shouldn’t be the cause since there’s 150 miles and 2 mountain ranges between us
and any transmitters (besides channel 10 & 33)

We will be able to use TVWS but the noise will probably slow the system down a
bit. We are still in the testing phase.

We are going to install next in a town that has no CableTV

YMMV

Yes, that is where our head is at as well. We have some very small pockets of
customers that line a lake in our region. Due to the uneven shoreline and the
ridge between the shoreline and the rest of the network we have LOS issues
getting to these folks. We are thinking a couple of APs at the most along the
ridge. Some we could get LOS, but most are going to have tree issues as the
shoreline has quite a few trees on it. Because of the speeds and the
investment in equipment, this is our last resort as mentioned below.

The only two options for APs and CPEs that we can find are Carlson Wireless and
Redline Communication. We could consider 900 MHz, but we believe that the
spectrum is going to be too noisy. At first we thought we’d get TVWS options
going, but didn’t realize they might be this limited. We may need to get up
there and see how noisy the 900 MHz spectrum really is.

TVWS is an install of last resort.

LOS 5ghz is preferred

LOS 3ghz is used when noise or distance for 5ghz is an issue

nLOS TVWS is used to get the remaining clients on our network

If there wasn’t so much granite around Colorado I might prefer friber too.
Wireless is much easier to deploy in the mtns.

Those are still mighty expensive antennas for a residential CPE. I think I'd
rather just spend my money on fiber subs.

For those of you using this equipment, what options do you have for CPE
antenna? The options I've been quoted both look like they're going to make for
a ~$700 CPE cost, which is quite a bit more than I'm willing to spend.
