want more than 30 or so subs on an AP anyway. That's easier to say when you're
not paying $3k for them.

I have to agree, it's perfectly possible to build a good network with just
about any gear out there, but you do need to know what you're doing and know
the limits of what that gear can do... and not having sync makes frequency
planning extremely challenging after awhile.
I don't think there's really any question that Canopy is going to scale
better than anything else that's out there right now, but in our area it's
pretty rare that we actually can get more than 30ish customers on a sector due
to natural limitations... which makes wifi based gear a lot more practical.

Almost five years ago I bought a network that ran Canopy because that's
the thing to do! Yeah, he had multiple towers in the same band within 5 miles
that didn't sync with each other. Almost every AP was an omni in suburban
Chicago. Had no idea how to do any sort of networking. I've since pulled all of
that crap and replaced it with UBNT or ePMP sectors.
A few years ago an out of area WISP bought out an area WISP that was
Canopy based. The purchaser had been helping the purchasee for several months
(maybe a couple years?) because they didn't know what they were doing.
There is at least one other WISP in the area that's been going at least
as long as I have... 802.11 based. An area WISP aggregator... 802.11 based
from what I've seen.
What gear you use has less to do with your success than properly
engineering a network.

I agree with Kurt. EPMP and ubnt have a place and work ok but I've been
doing this for 12 years and the only equipment that works for voip, vpn,
gaming, reliability, and just dam works is cambium 100 to 450. And as for
mimosa and AC hardware, i hope they have a great product but unless it can do
what 450 can do for reliable links it has no place in my network. Every ubnt
wisp that has popped up in my service area has either quit or pulled out of my
area.

That pricing lines up with what I was told by Cambium at the
shows. I am going to assume that since its MSRP that WISPS can buy at 80% of
that price level so then we are looking at $1160.00 for the lite AP and then
the upgrade key so that is right there with what a full-AP would have cost so
really no price disadvantage to start out with the lite-AP.
This is wonderfull news! I am planning on ripping out a bunch
of EPMP and putting 450 in its place.
