Yes, with differential correction stations etc the surveyors get very accurate. I am sure you don’t set up differential correction before you use this tool.
But with simple modules I wonder how you get this accuracy over a space of one foot. Perhaps with WAAS corrections? If you could get accurate enough location, you could use two locations to calculate the aim of the tool. I am guessing that is how they did it. GPS, inclinometers, mag compass etc. But the flux gate magnetic compass gets thrown off by towers. So it was not worth even trying in my opinion. Now, if they have discovered a way to get heading info that can be relied upon, good for them. I couldn’t solve the problem.
