Oh...just because they've done it, doesn't mean it can't be done better.
My complaint with the indoor unit was that there was no way to mount it
to anything. They needed some eyes for screws, or keyholes on the back,
or something along those lines. The outdoor version wasn't particularly
rugged for an outdoor device, and still nothing to mount it to. You
either dangled it out of the bottom of the device, or zip tie it to the
mounting pipe.

Ubiquiti makes or used to make a device that did that. The indoor
version that looked like an elongated coupler, and an outdoor version
that was a plug on a pigtail with a jack on the other end. They are
about $20 for either one.
Part number INS-8023AF
They are converting from 48v 802.3af to 12V passive PoE on the spare
pairs. Are you looking at the same application, or something else?

I am making a converter to power 12 volt devices off of 48 vdc poe.

What's huge? A Mean Well RSD is going to be rather large. There's
also the Traco DIN rail mount (TCL series, and that will be over
$50/ea), but that is also pretty large. What application?

It is huge. Looking for something that will be around for some
time. Things like this I fear are surplus/overruns/obsolete EOL
products.

How about $11.
We have used these to power radios off batteries for
installers. They are adjustable - we set them 48v out on 16.2v
battery packs.

Looking for the smallest cheapest 12 volt to 48 volt unit that
will do 20 watts.
Digi-Key has some but they are not cheap. Looking for something
in the $20 range.
