900 MHz is very location sensitive, for lack of a better term.

Our service area straddles the ridge of the Santa Cruz mountains on the San Francisco peninsula. The north/east side of the ridge is silicon valley, and deploying 900 there is tantamount to suicide. There are literally ~~ a million smart meters over there, and the noise floor is unbelievable.

On the south/west side of the ridge are just a few thousand homes, and the smart meters are so spread out that they actually don't function. They are too far apart to mesh with each other. Here the noise floor is actually still OK.

So I would not attempt to deploy this on the north/east side, but the south/west side is a distinct possibility.

True... and the SMs are actually cheaper than 450 prices, unless you want 4mbps SMs. Even if 450i doesn't cost more to build, it is a brand new product, which means they're going to have to recover a lot more R&D costs than on something like 450 that's been out for a few years already.

That's also probably true... I know a lot of WISPs want nothing to do with 900mhz at this point, and I don't imagine they're going to buy any no matter what the price is, so it could end up being a pretty low volume product.

Also they chose to build it on the 450i platform at 450 prices. I
don’t know what this means for profit margins. Maybe 450i costs a
lot more to build than 450, maybe it is actually a cost reduction,
    who knows.
If they aren’t making tons of money on the blades, they may not
want to give the razors away.
On the other hand, they may feel they went out on a limb building
this product when some WISPs were begging for it but many said 900
was dead to them. So they have a unique product with uncertain
volume. If sales exceed modest expectations, they might feel
better about bringing out a Lite AP. They no doubt realize lots of
900 Lite APs would stay Lites.

Well, yes, of course there is demand, it's more a question of if
they think they can sell enough more of the lites to offset the
difference. My opinion is that they probably would, but they may
not agree... they also might just be waiting until the demand
drops off some before they introduce a lite... afterall, if
they're selling everything they can build at this point, it
doesn't make much sense from their point of view to sell them cheaper.

It's the same hardware so of course there's demand for the
lites. There's no disadvantage to upgrade the keys later. They
just want to see if they can squeeze the most out of everyone
at the beginning to maximize profit. Unfortunately it's why
Cambium is Cambium and Ubiquiti is well, a lot bigger.

That isn't going to happen though... when I asked someone

doing a Lite AP later on. I'm guessing they'll do it if they
        see enough demand for it.
I don't anticipate that we'll be putting very many of these
APs up at full price, but I would certainly consider them on
a lot more of our towers if they release a Lite AP (assuming
        they work well).

I got one from WAV last week. We haven't had time to put
it up yet unfortunately, so I can't say how well they work.
Last I heard there wasn't a LiteAP in the works, but
hopefully that will change if we keep asking for it...

What is the status on the 900mhz 450 hitting mass
distributors? I know some people out there have some
early pre-order units but is there some of this
still floating around on a boat somewhere or
something? Streakwave doesn't even have the 900mhz
450i listed on their website at all. Also more
importantly, how good is the F/B ratio on the
cambium sector in real life deployments? The sector
looks like a KP on the PDF. Have they released any
pricing publicly? Also will there be a lite AP for
<10 subs at half cost of the full AP? This is very
important because we need to have many sectors on a
tower to get around the noise which means a lot less
                subs per AP.
