I have a daughter that lives in the UK. Never understood why they need to be
so large, why they have a switch. Seems like unnecessary cost etc. Fused plug
is just one more thing to fail and cost you.

I do like 220 everywhere. I wonder if it is referenced to earth ground?
Seems like it would be safer to float it. And with 220 your wires can be so
much smaller.

If we really wanted everything to be safe we would use shuttered BS1363 (UK
code) receptacles with fused plugs, even for 120VAC 15A circuits.

Most people in the US have never worked with them, but they're very
mechanically robust and safe.

We added an addition to the quarters at the ambulance I worked for, I came
in just as the electircian was finishing up and saw them all ground up. I told
him I didnt want to be "that guy" but they were upside down. He explained the
reason, said it was code too, but ive never verified that, but the reason makes
sense, so ground up ever since for me

I agree with the often/soften thing... unless you pronounce soften wrong.

Same as the proper way to pronounce the word “often”.
        (Rhymes with soften).

I am OK with being totally right and nobody agreeing with me.

Yeah, probably no box, just drywall for the photo.
But I would say the receptacle is upside down too.
(that is a PC vs apple, red state vs blue state kind of thing)
